The 12 best AI conferences in Europe in 2026
Marco Conti ranks the 12 European AI conferences worth a flight in 2026 — research, applied, and the founder-flavoured ones, with honest takes on which actually justify the ticket.
Right. Twelve months of European AI conferences ahead. Some are worth the flight, most are not. Here is the honest ranking from someone who has done thirty of these in the past three years and lost half a calendar year to it.
If you want a single live calendar of all the European AI events worth knowing about, the AI events page on Rifio aggregates the lot.
What changed in 2025
Three shifts. First, AI Engineer Summit London became the single best applied-AI conference in Europe — practitioner-led, dense speaker line-ups, no enterprise-fluff. Second, the satellite events around the major research conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) when they come to Europe have become more practical and less paper-heavy. Third, the founder-conference scene split — Slush stayed strong, Web Summit got more diffuse, AI House Summit emerged as a curated alternative.
The result: the choice of where to spend conference budget in 2026 is alot clearer than it was two years ago.
The single best ticket
AI Engineer Summit London is mega. Best applied-AI conference in Europe right now, full stop. Practitioner-led — the speakers are people shipping production AI systems, not professional speakers. Strong representation from OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepMind, Mistral, and the open-source crowd. The workshops are real teaching, not sales. Worth the ticket if you ship AI products for a living.
Apply early. The London edition fills.
The research-adjacent options
When NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR come to a European city, the move is to skip the main paper sessions and hit the workshops. The workshops are practical, deep, and the receptions are dense with researchers you can actually talk to. The main tracks are honestly only for active researchers presenting papers.
EurAI summer schools are the deeper-learning version. Two-week formats, proper teaching by senior researchers, cheap relative to conferences. Not founder events — these are for serious technical learners.
Mistral and the European model-lab events are smaller and harder to get into. The application bar is real. But the technical content is unmatched in Europe when you do get in.
The founder conferences
Slush is the European founder conference, full stop. Helsinki in November, cold as krass, but the room is correct. The AI track has gotten properly serious — the line-up reliably pulls senior speakers from the major labs and the European model labs. Worth the flight.
AI House Summit is the curated alternative. Smaller, invite-application, founder-and-investor flavoured. When it lands in Davos or Cannes, the speaker line-up is consistently strong. Apply with substance.
Rise of AI Conference in Berlin has had mixed quality across years — but the founder and operator track has been consistent. Local crowd, less international, useful if you're building in Europe and want the European-specific signal.
The podcast-flavoured ones
Latent Space Live events when they come to London or Amsterdam are smaller, cheaper, and the crowd is exactly the right kind of builder. Podcast recording plus full speaker line-up format works mega well.
AI Tinkerers events across Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam are technically meetups not conferences, but the cumulative density across the year functions as a distributed European conference. Free, application-based, properly technical.
The enterprise ones
World Summit AI in Amsterdam is bigger, broader, more enterprise. Useful if you're selling to corporates. Less useful if you're building. Pay the ticket only if your customer is an enterprise.
Web Summit AI track in Lisbon is inside the broader Web Summit. The AI speakers are strong but the density is low — too much else competing for attention. Pay for Web Summit only if you want the broader founder room and treat AI as a bonus track.
AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva is UN-backed, free if you apply early, and surprisingly substantive on ethics and policy. Skip if you only want technical content. Worth a day if you care about how AI policy gets made.
What to actually do across the year
A practical 2026 European AI conference plan:
- Buy a ticket for AI Engineer Summit London. This is the foundational one.
- Apply to one AI House Summit. The curated rooms are worth a flight.
- Pick Slush or Web Summit, not both. Slush for AI specifically, Web Summit for general founder signal.
- Hit one Latent Space Live event when it lands in your city.
- Catch the AI Tinkerers events in your home city across the year. These ship more value per pound than any conference.
- Skip everything else unless you have a specific person to meet.
How to actually work a conference
A few rules that work across the lot:
- Pick three specific people you want to meet. DM ahead. The serendipity hits when you have a baseline plan.
- Skip the headline keynotes. The genuinly useful conversations happen in the corridor and at the receptions.
- Block one full day after the conference for follow-up. Most of the ROI is in the post-conference DM, not the in-event meeting.
- Don't pitch in the first sentence. The "what are you working on" lead-in marks you as junior.
- Eat off-site. Conference catering is universally bad.
What I have left off
A handful of AI-branded conferences in major European cities that are honestly thinly-disguised enterprise sales conferences. If the speaker list is mostly Director-of-Innovation-at-Tier-2-Bank, skip it. There is a distinction between conferences for builders and conferences for buyers. The above is the builder list.
For the live calendar across all European AI events worth knowing about, the Rifio AI events feed is the cleanest aggregation. The 2026 calendar is dense — pick well, skip the rest.
