The best rooftops in Dubai locals actually go to

Nine Dubai rooftops ranked by someone who lives here, not by someone passing through. From Cé La Vi sunset to a quiet Penrose terrace nobody talks about. AED prices, real timing.

Omar HaddadOmar Haddad·29 March 2026·5 min read·Dubai

Yallah, the rooftops list. I have been doing this for too long and the version of this article that exists everywhere else is mostly written by someone who flew in for a week and tipped the doorman to call it research.

This is not that. These are the nine I would actually take a friend to. Some are loud, some are quiet, all of them earn their place. AED prices are honest, timing is honest.

I keep my saved events for these on Rifio so I can spot when one of them runs a takeover or a private night — the Dubai nightlife filter covers most of them.

1. Cé La Vi — Address Sky View

The 54th floor of the Address Sky View, Downtown. Sunset out the window straight at the Burj. The resident DJ from 7pm to 9pm is the best happy-hour set in the city, full stop.

Minimum spend AED 200, you will hit it on two cocktails and a snack. Book a high-table for two; the lounge is fine for groups but the high-tables get the proper view. Trainers are fine, no shorts.

2. Soho Garden Rooftop

Meydan, set back from the main strip. The garden bar upstairs is the rooftop, the dance floor is the basement, and the right way to use the venue is to spend the first two hours up top, eat a snack, then commit to downstairs.

Friday line-ups are the strongest in the region this season. AED 150 on the door, AED 600 a bottle if you want a table. Trainers are fine on the rooftop, less fine downstairs.

3. The Penrose terrace

The Penrose is a members club in DIFC, but the public terrace bar is open to anyone with a reservation, and most weeknights you can walk up. Founders, finance people, one journalist, mostly speaking quietly.

Free to enter, AED 80 for a cocktail, AED 60 for a beer. This is the locals' rooftop. If you have ever heard someone say "let's grab a drink in DIFC" and meant a real drink, this is what they meant.

4. Sushisamba Dubai

St Regis Downtown, top of the building, the breeze is real. Tuesday is the right night — the kitchen is on form, the floor is half full, the cocktail bar is unrushed.

AED 250 for a set, AED 350 for the full omakase. Get the 7:30pm slot, eat slowly, walk out at 9.

5. COYA Rooftop

Four Seasons JBR. The Pisco Sundays crowd is the scene — yes Sundays, this is Dubai, the calendar is different. Cocktails are AED 90 each, small plates are AED 80, the bill adds up faster than the room admits.

The Peruvian menu is genuinely good and the room is gorgeous. Leave before midnight or accept the consequences.

6. Iris Dubai

Meydan Racecourse, top floor. People sleep on this place because it is far from DIFC and Marina, and Meydan is mostly known for racing. The wraparound terrace is one of the best in the city — Burj on one side, racecourse and desert on the other.

AED 150 minimum, the food is fine, the room is the reason. Get the 7pm sunset table.

7. BB Social rooftop

DIFC, Gate Avenue. This is the Saturday afternoon move and the Sunday brunch alternative. Calmer than the nightclub rooftops, the food is honest Asian small plates, and the music sits at a volume you can speak through.

AED 100 minimum spend, AED 250 a head if you eat properly.

8. Atelier M

Pier 7 in Dubai Marina, the building with the seven restaurants stacked. Atelier M sits high enough to see the marina basin properly. The food has improved sharply in the last year — the steak is now genuinely good, the cocktails were always good.

AED 120 minimum, you will hit it. Trainers are fine.

9. Treehouse

Taj Hotel, Business Bay. Planted out terrace, the Burj at an angle most people have not seen, and a crowd that is half-residents, half-finance people taking the lift up after the office.

AED 150 minimum, AED 90 cocktails. The Wednesday house night gets full by 10. Reserve.

A few notes I have not put anywhere else.

The two I have left off and you might wonder why.

Skyview Bar at Burj Al Arab is the Dubai rooftop everyone has heard of and almost no one in this city goes to. The view is fine, the price is mental, the room is mostly tourists. Visit once if you have a visiting parent, otherwise skip.

Level 43 at Four Points has lost its way. It used to be on this list. The view has not changed but the room has, and the price has crept up without the food keeping pace. I will revisit in autumn.

The dress code thing.

Smart casual works almost everywhere. The two exceptions are Cé La Vi and Soho Garden after 9pm on Friday, where they get tighter. Trainers are fine on every rooftop on this list at the bar. Shorts are not.

On reservations.

For weeknight visits, almost all of these will seat you walk-in before 7pm. After 8pm on Friday and Saturday, only Iris and BB Social will seat you reliably — the rest you should book. The Penrose technically requires a reservation always, but a polite ask at the door on a Tuesday will normally get you in.

On the heat.

This list is most useful between November and mid-April. After that, sunset moves later, and most of these have mist fans by 7pm anyway. By June, only the indoor-outdoor places (BB Social, Atelier M, Treehouse) are genuinely usable on a weekday. The proper outdoor rooftops (Iris, Cé La Vi terrace) become weekend-only between June and September.

On cost.

This is Dubai, not Lisbon. AED 90 cocktails are normal, AED 600 bottles are normal, the bill at the end is going to be more than you planned. The rooftops on this list are honest with their pricing — no hidden cover charges, no service charge surprises. You are paying for the room and the view, and the room and the view earn it.

I will revisit this list in October when the season turns. For now: go to Cé La Vi for sunset, the Penrose for a quiet drink, Soho Garden when the line-up is right.

Save them on Rifio so you can find them again — the Dubai events page lets you follow specific venues.

  1. 1

    Cé La Vi

Address Sky View · 54th floor · AED 200 min

Sunset hour, Burj out the window, the resident is reliably good. The peak rooftop in the city.

  2. 2

    Soho Garden Rooftop

    Meydan · AED 150+ door · Fri/Sat

Garden upstairs is the move, dance floor downstairs is the after. Friday line-ups outclass most of the region.

  3. 3

    The Penrose terrace

DIFC · Free or AED 80 cocktail

The locals' rooftop. Founders, lawyers, one journalist, all pretending not to listen to each other.

  4. 4

    Sushisamba

St Regis Downtown · AED 250+ set

Tuesday evening with a breeze, the kitchen at full output. The right rooftop for a low-effort dinner.

  5. 5

    COYA Rooftop

Four Seasons JBR · AED 180 min

Sunday Pisco crowd is the scene. Stay for the Peruvian small plates, leave before the party tips into chaos.

  6. 6

    Iris Dubai

Meydan Racecourse · AED 150 min

Underrated. The far end of Meydan, fewer tourists, the wraparound view is genuinely special.

  7. 7

    BB Social rooftop

    DIFC · AED 100 min

The Saturday afternoon move. Calmer than the night-club rooftops, the food is honest, the music is at a volume you can speak through.

  8. 8

    Atelier M

Pier 7, Dubai Marina · AED 120 min

The view of the marina basin is the reason. The food has improved sharply in the last twelve months.

  9. 9

    Treehouse

Taj Hotel, Business Bay · AED 150 min

The Burj from a different angle, a planted-out terrace, and a crowd that is half-residents, half-finance.

FAQ

Why no Burj Al Arab Skyview Bar?
The price-to-experience ratio does not work. Lovely view, AED 600 minimum spend, the room is mostly tourists. Visit once for the photo, do not pretend it is your local.
Is dress code an issue?
On most of these, smart casual is fine. Cé La Vi and Soho Garden lean stricter on Friday nights. Trainers are fine everywhere except the very oldest hotel rooftops.
Best month for rooftops?
November to mid-April. After that, evenings work but afternoons are punishing. By June you are sitting in mist fans and accepting it.
Do these take walk-ins?
Most yes, on a weeknight. Friday and Saturday — book. Two of the nine on this list will not seat you without a reservation after 8pm on a Friday.
