Manchester tech meetups 2026 — the ones actually worth attending
A ranked list of the Manchester tech meetups that are honestly worth your time in 2026 — from MancJS to the Northern AI Lab evenings, with prices, vibes and who shows up.
Manchester's tech meetup scene has been quietly the best in the north for two years. The ones still running in 2026 are the ones that earned it — they kept the talks short, they kept the pizza honest, and they did not turn into thinly-disguised recruiter pitches. Here is the ranked list.
The Manchester this-week page usually has at least three of these on it, but if you want the full ranking, it is below.
1. MancJS — the unbeatable starter meetup
The one I send anyone new to Manchester tech. Free entry with RSVP, free pizza from the place on Tib Street, free beer (one per person, then the bar opens). Two talks, 25 minutes each, pitched at the level where someone who joined the industry six months ago is not lost and someone who has been doing it for ten years still learns one thing.
It runs on the second Tuesday of the month at the new Federation House Annexe. Expect 80 people, expect to leave at 9, expect to chat to two strangers without being weird about it. Best for: anyone new to Manchester tech, anyone wanting a low-stakes evening, anyone who likes pizza.
2. Northern AI Lab — the serious one
The most technically meaty meetup in the city. Two long-form talks, 35 minutes each, no panel, and a Q&A that goes deep enough that someone will mention a paper from last week. The crowd is engineers from the Bruntwood SciTech tenants and a small contingent from the Manchester Google DeepMind office.
Free with RSVP, runs every six weeks at Federation House or the SciTech building depending on the crowd size. Best for: ML engineers, applied AI folks, anyone who wants the talks to be the actual point of the evening rather than the warm-up to networking.
The Q&A bit is genuinely the best Q&A I have been to anywhere — the host enforces a one-question rule and it works.
3. Manchester Founders — the one with deal flow
Eight quid on the door, which goes straight to the bar tab. Pre-talk hiring window — seven companies get a 2-minute slot to pitch open roles, which has become the most useful 14 minutes of any meetup in town. Two short talks, then 90 minutes of standing-around-with-a-drink which is where the actual stuff happens.
Crowd is 60% founders, 30% early-stage operators, 10% investors who have travelled up from London for the night. Best for: anyone raising, anyone hiring, anyone with a thing to ship.
4. Manchester Python — the smaller, more technical one
Smaller than MancJS by a long way — 30 to 40 people on a good night — but the talks are more technical. The room is alot more diverse than the JavaScript scene, and the host has been the same for five years which is a quiet superpower. Free RSVP, runs monthly at the NQ tech space.
Best for: Python engineers, data folks, anyone bored of frontend talks.
5. NorthCoders Demo Night — the hiring goldmine
NorthCoders is the Manchester coding bootcamp, and their quarterly demo night is where recent grads show what they built in the final project. Free, runs at the NQ HQ, lasts about two hours. Best for: anyone hiring junior engineers — you will spot at least three you want to interview before everyone else does.
The pizza is genuinly the best pizza of any meetup in this list. The bar is open until 10.
6. Manchester Design Lab — for product designers
Product designers, UX folks, the occasional engineer who turned up by accident and stayed. The talks lean case-study — "how we shipped X at Y" — and the wine is the decent stuff rather than the warm Sauvignon. Free entry, runs monthly at the Spinningfields tower.
Best for: product designers, UX folks, design managers.
7. Manchester Tech Trust talks — for the policy-curious
The smallest in this list and the one most people have not heard of. Quarterly, £5 on the door, the talks are local-council digital, NHS digital, occasionally an academic from the University. Honestly fascinating if you are interested in how tech actually meets the public sector.
Best for: policy people, civic tech, anyone who has ever wondered how council websites get built.
A small reminder that the free Manchester meetups list has all the free ones above with their next dates pre-loaded. Save the ones you want and you will recieve a reminder the day before, which is alot less faff than checking three different RSVP forms.
If you only do one — MancJS. If you want the technical stuff — Northern AI Lab. If you are raising or hiring — Manchester Founders. The rest are excellent in the right slot. The Manchester scene has earned its reputation by not pretending to be London, and you can feel it in the rooms. Mint.
