A monthly evening for LA's climate community.
Los Angeles County is full of people already doing climate work, from environmental justice organizers who have led it in their own neighborhoods for decades to people just finding their way in. Climate After Hours gives all of them a standing room: one evening a month with the people doing adjacent work across the county, the ones you'd otherwise meet by accident, or never.
Climate work here runs on people who show up for their own neighborhoods. The people who know what our climate future needs are the ones living it every day, in the air on their block, the shade on their street, and the cost of keeping a home cool. From the boardroom to the block party, our neighbors' experience sets the agenda. That is how we design a climate future where every Angeleno thrives.
The room has two sides. One is a happy hour, with music, drinks, and time to catch up. The other is an informal salon, a facilitated conversation that starts once the room fills in. Drift between the two, stay in one, or come and go as the evening moves. Each month's conversation is shaped by the host organizations and the neighborhood we're in.
Each month the evening moves to a different part of the county. A county of 88 cities comes together one neighborhood at a time, and once the work is visible, people find each other. Climate After Hours is how we stop leaving that to chance.
There is no cost to attend. Registering helps us make sure we have space for everyone. If your plans change, cancel your registration so someone on the wait list who wants to attend can take your place.
Climate After Hours is hosted by Collidescope Foundation and Better Future Club in support of Los Angeles Climate Week, a countywide week of climate events organized by the people who live here. This month's venue sponsor is Buro Happold.
Our drink refreshments are courtesy of Liquid Death and Yerba Madre.
This month we're on the 68th floor of the US Bank Tower, 633 West 5th Street, in Buro Happold's office. Come to the building's main entrance and check in with security. You'll need to show a photo ID before they admit you to the elevators. Getting upstairs takes two elevators, with a change partway up. A volunteer will be in the lobby to greet you and show you the way. Give yourself about ten extra minutes.
Transit: Pershing Square Station (B and D Lines) is about a five-minute walk. 7th St/Metro Center (A, B, D, and E Lines) is about ten. Plan your trip at metro.net.
Bike: Pershing Square Station has a Metro Bike Share station, plus bike racks and lockers.
Walking and carpooling are always encouraged. Offer or find a seat on Crewz: https://crewz.co/
Parking: The building's underground garage is at 633 Hope Place, entered from the back of the building off Hope Place, a block north of 5th Street. It often fills up, so give yourself time. The Pershing Square Garage at 532 South Olive Street is a short walk away.
Drop-off: The main entrance on 5th Street.
Come as you are. Halloween is just a few days away. If you like, wear a reused or upcycled costume piece! No pressure, though.
We plan Climate After Hours so everyone can take part. Here's what to expect at this month's venue.
Getting in: The main entrance is wheelchair accessible. Building security checks a photo ID for every guest. Getting to the 68th floor takes two elevators, and our lobby volunteer can ride up with you.
Seating: Chairs on the salon side, with standing and seating on the happy hour side.
Restrooms: On the 68th floor, inside the office.
Sound: Music stays on the happy hour side, and the salon side is quieter.
Hearing: Salon facilitators use a microphone.
Interpretation: ASL interpretation, live captioning, and language interpretation can be arranged on request.
Service animals are welcome. Personal care attendants are welcome too; please register them so we hold their spot.
Guests under 18 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
By registering, you agree that Collidescope Foundation and Better Future Club may contact you about Climate After Hours and their work. You can unsubscribe from either of them at any time.
Photographers and videographers will be at this event. By attending, you consent to being photographed and recorded, and to the use of those images without compensation by the hosts and LA Climate Week in their communications. If you'd rather not be photographed, let our team at reception know, and we'll make sure our photographers are aware.
