The 9 best London dating events and singles mixers, ranked

Kate Fletcher ranks the actual decent singles events in London for 2026 — speed dating, run clubs that double as mixers, gallery nights, the lot. No cringe, mostly.

Right. London dating events. The brief: which actually work, which are sad, which are quietly the best mixer in the city without ever calling themselves one. I've been to a properly mental amount of these in the last eighteen months and here's the honest ranking.

The single most important thing to know: the best singles events in London aren't labelled as singles events. They're run clubs, book clubs, gallery lates, gigs where you're seated next to strangers. The energy is friendlier, the people are less desperate, and the format has built-in conversation starters. The actual speed-dating events have improved, but they're still working uphill against the format.

The "not technically a singles event" tier

Run Dem Crew on Tuesday from Shoreditch is the best thing on this list and it's nominally a running crew. Hundred-plus people most weeks, hugely mixed crowd, and the pub afterwards has accidentally become the best East London mixer in 2026. No pressure, no name tags, you just rocked up to run.

Thursday Late at Tate Modern is not a dating event in any official sense but it's the most date-friendly recurring weekly thing in zone 1. Late opening, bar, free entry, plenty of room to wander. Half the dating couples I know in London had a Tate Late date in their first month.

Sofar Sounds does secret-location gigs where you're seated cross-legged on a living-room floor next to total strangers, no phones, three acts. The format forces conversation in the breaks. Worth the £25-30 for that alone.

The properly-organised singles tier

Original Dating is the actual industry leader for speed dating in London. They've been doing it for years, the venues are decent (Be At One, Smiths of Smithfield, occasional rooftops), and they age-band properly. The 30-40 nights are noticeably better-attended than the 25-35 ones, but both work.

Hinge moved into in-person events in 2025 and it's genuinly the best app-organised mixer because they vet via the app first. Smaller groups (40-60), no walk-ins, and the conversion rate from event to second date is reportedly the highest in the industry. Members only.

The recurring-format tier

The Inkwell is a book club that's become a quiet singles institution. One book a month, meets in different pubs, twenty-something to thirty-something literary crowd. Less swiping energy, more "we've all read the same thing, let's argue about it." Repeat attendance is high which is the actual signal of a working format.

The London Singles Run Club is more deliberately positioned than Run Dem — Saturday 9am at Hyde Park, 5k around the Serpentine, coffee at the Lido afterwards. Younger and more dating-curious than the proper run clubs, which is fine if that's what you want.

WeRunTheCity is a women-only run club but the post-run pub is mixed and it's become a properly good Wandsworth/Battersea mixer for the sportier end of the dating market.

The summer-only tier

Pop Up Speed Dating at Roof East in Stratford is the format I most recommend to people who think they'd hate speed dating. Rooftop, drinks, crazy golf afterwards, the whole thing has a stupid-fun energy that the basement speed-dating events can't touch. Summer only, books out three weeks ahead.

What I haven't put on the list

The cringe stuff. "Singles supper club" formats where you pay £80 to eat with strangers, the speed-dating-but-with-cocktail-making, anything called an "elevated" or "premium" mixer — all the same energy and all bad. Avoid.

Tinder events, Bumble events outside their app, the Times+ branded singles events — uneven, expensive, frequently dominated by the same fifteen people.

How I'd actually use this list

Pick one recurring format (run club, book club) and stick to it for six weeks. The repetition is what works — same faces, lower pressure, conversation builds across weeks. Supplement with one one-off (speed dating, Hinge IRL, Sofar) per month for variety.

For booking and filtering, the London this-week page actually filters dating-friendly events properly by area, which sounds like a small thing and isn't. Beats squinting at Eventbrite.

You'll be fine. Mostly.

FAQ

Are singles events in London actually any good in 2026?
A handful are. The bar has risen — speed dating got better, run clubs got bigger, the Thursday-night gallery thing has stuck.
How much do they cost?
Speed dating is £25-35, mixers £15-25, run clubs free. Some of the upmarket ones (Original Dating, Bumble events) push £45.
What's the best one for actually meeting people?
Run clubs and book clubs. Recurring formats, same faces, conversation built in. One-off mixers are a coin-flip.
